AutoCAD Inventor:: Create A Sheet Metal Punch Tool. I am trying to create a sheet metal punch tool, however, I must have something incorrect because the extract iFeature does not seem to be working. I've attached a copy of the file I'm currently working on.
why the Punch i created causes the following?
1. The punch will not work with part 1.I have 4 points for the Punch on part-1
2. When attempting to get the 4 punch holes on to the flat sheet it causes inventor to shutdown.I have done 4 attempts to fit the punch into the flat sheet (part-1) and 4 times it has shutdown Inventor

I am trying to convert punch .ipt 2013 version file into a Sheet Metal Punch iFeature..For an unknown reason to me i cannot get it to work..Have a look at the file and see why i cannot convert to a Sheet Metal Punch iFeature ?
The Punch will then go onto the Sheet Metal Plate
A colleague & I have been trying and failing all day to create a punch tool from scratch. I did however manage to modify the geometry of the Dimple & Hole example here:
[URL]...
how to
a) build the iFeature correctly and
b) how to then extract it so that the orientation is not FUBAR when you insert it using the punch tool.
Attached are the dimensions I need. This shape when revolved about the centreline should produce a 'dimple' effect in the sheet metal part.
I want to know if is possible to create a troquel punch as iFeature for just bend, not cut o drilled, for example, to create a squared punch for to make a bending in a sheet metal,
I am trying to make a punch tool in inventor for sheet metal. I noticed that for the features I could not select faces or flanges I did. I know you can extrude the same shape to get the same result but I wanted to use a face/flange so that I can retain the flat development. What is the best way around this.
To get a sense of what I am trying to make:
-square cut out
-on the bottom edge of the square I made a face that is angled at 45 degrees
It would be closest to a louver tool.
My company is trying to put some automation together to pull design attributes of parts and assemblies to drive routing creation in the shop.
The issue that we have run into is that for certain ifeatures, we need to gain access to the name (or punch ID) of an ifeature (primarily punch tools). Pulling the name of the feature that the tool created is relatively easy, but because you are able to change the name of the feature as it appears in the model browser, it isn't the most reliable way to get that information.
We are looking for a way to figure out what the name of the ifeature used to create the feature without referencing the resulting feature's name in the model tree.
I've included an example, and I'm looking for the name of the tool which should be 'Ob_750X562'.
I'm using Inventor 2014.
I created a Punch Tool iFeature, everything seemed fine, I could save it without problems.
However, when I try to place it in a part with the Punch Tool, it says 'The file has 0 volume changing features. To be a valid punch tool, the .ide file must contain at least 1 sketch-based feature.'

I picked the ADSK-METRIC-120 to change the hole size from 25 to 120, but the new hole size ADSK-METRIC-120 is RED color and I cannot refresh or finish it. why size 25 worked, but not the 120?
I am using the Autodesk Inventor 2012.
I have made some punches for sheet metal and this one seems to be simple but it has me stumb.
Its 50mm in Dia a 5mm lip a 28mm outside rad cone and a depth inside of =/- 8.5mm then there is a 12mm hole
I have been given the task of figuring out a way to have etching placed on our parts to show the part number of the part. The end goal is to get the parts laser cut but have the part number etched into the part.Is there a way to convert text (i.e. 12345) to a sketched symbol that the punch feature would recognize and then add it to the library? Right now we are using 2012 but will be upgraded to 2014 within the next 6 months.
I've a problem in Inv 2011 SP2 and 2012 SP1 with 2D Sketch Punch Representation.
See attached file for the explanation of the problem or this Link to animated problem.
I have a part that we will cut out on a CNC plasma machine that will undergo a drilling operation. We create all the parts that will be cut on the plasma in the sheet metal environment because of the simple flat pattern export. Our plasma machine has the ability to scribe lines and also create center punch marks. It distinguishes between cut lines, scribe lines, and center punch marks by layer name. I need a way to get the center points of the drill locations into their own layer.
When placing a puch table in a flat pattern drawing, can the origin point be placed anywhere or does it have to correspond to the origin point of the Inventor drawing (0,0,0)?I placed the origin point at some point which I randomly chose but no table popped up for me to chose the puch table option.
I recently installed Vault pro 2013. I was running Inventor 2012 at the time. My vault add-in stopped loading. I installed Inventor 2013 and the vault add-in still won't load. I've gone to the Add-in manager 2013 and set it to loaded. I hit the 'OK' button and nothing. Open the manager up again and it says 'unloaded'. Something is going on that is not allowing my vault add-in to load.
Can I create an FBX file in Inventor 2013? If so, how would I do that?
How can I create a new material in Inv2013.
I got lost with all the new menus in there.
I am currently using Autodesk Inventor 2013 Product Design Suite. When I open a new instance of Inventor, I get the 'Welcome!' window the pops up along with the blank inventor program. From here if I attempt to create a 'new' file, it seems to just freeze. I cannot even get into the window that lets you pick which template you would like to use. I have tried creating from all 4 locations (Welcome!, general toolbar, Get Started, and Inventor's file equiv).
I have no problems opening files that have already been created which leads me to believe that there must be some error in bringing up that new template window. This makes converting my 3D models into 2D autoCAD files impossible.
I have Inventor Professional 2013 (student). I can't open new file, if I try to the program crashes and closes and try to send an error report. Can't install update/patch (DL20857064_32-bit.msp or inventor2013_sp1.1_x86.msp), says program not installed/or can't gain acces to the HKey. I have admin rights, I have tried re-activating, repairing, re-installing, uninstalling and reinstalling, to the point i had to request a new activation code but it's still not working.
I have attached a file with error messages and my system, which should be ok according to the system requirements.
I want a to create a tool button on the annotate tab of the ribbon. The button will toggle between having the 'display line weights' box (on the drawing tab of the application options dialog box) ticked or not ticked.
I have the settings set to display true line weights. (so i can visualize how the actual print will look, but need it off to be able to draft properly).
I am creating a Carbon Fiber glider. I have drawn the entire file and assembled it in autodesk inventor. How can I take each individual part and create a mold that I can CNC out? I just need a mold CAD file and then can run it through mastercam to get the G&M Code.
I knew how to do this in inventor 2011 but now that i installed inventor 2013 I forgot. How to create a new material and save it for future use in inventor 2013?
I want to ask if in Autodesk Inventor 2013, can we create a part with a different configuration?
example:I made a cube the size of 10mm x 10mm x 10mm, after which it would be revised measures 15mm x 15mm x 15mm. The second revision to change the size of a 12mm x 12mm x 12mm.
Can all the revision is done in one file? And if I want to revise again be 10mm x 10mm x 10mm, can?
Have I been that provides revision always create a new file and the file number so much that hard to figure out which revision. I am still learning Autodesk Inventor 2013.
I have this assembly. I want to sort the browser, so I go to Assembly Tab, Productivity panel, Alpha Sort Component. a few seconds later, I get 'Sort Failed'. I am not in a weldment, not in locked view rep.

This code creates custom iProperties if the iProperty isn't found. I'd like to add another iProperty called 'Resaw' with a Yes/No property type. Is there a way of doing this the way I have things started here?
We are running Inventor 2013 and I am trying to create a simple positional representation of a small assembly. For some reason, the 'New' option is grayed out in the positional representation browser.
I can't remember ever having trouble creating them in past releases...
i am wanting to use the apprentice server in another program. The apprentice server is 'normally' found in the registry under this key:
ComputerHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSIDC343ED84-A129-11d3-B799-0060B0F159EF
The problem is, that if you uninstall all things autodesk, and run a registry cleaner (or delete that key by hand), and then install only inventor view 2013 and run inventor view 2013, it will *not* create that key in the registry.
This makes it impossible to run the apprentice thru the COM mechanism, even your SDK samples will not work.
(i suspect (but havent proved), the bigger problem is on a brand new machine, install and run only inventor view 2013 , you still can't use the apprentice server.)
The 'workaround' is to install and run inventor view 2012. running inventor view 2012 will create the registry key. After that, running inventor view 2013 will happily update the key's value to the appropriate place.
(C:Program FilesAutodeskInventor View 2013BinRxApprenticeServer.dll)
so try this :
1) run regedit and delete the key and all its subkeys
ComputerHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSIDC343ED84-A129-11d3-B799-0060B0F159EF
2) optionally install inventor view 2013 ('as administrator' or not doesnt matter).
2) run inventor view 2013 ('as administrator' or not doesnt matter). exit it
3) run regedit. the key is not there still. you won't be able to run any SDK samples or get an apprentice server using the following 'basic'
Set ApprenticeServer = New ApprenticeServerComponent
i'm on windows7, x64. (iv2013 is: build 126, Release: 2013 RTM)
is a bug in 'inventor view 2013', or is that intended for some strange reason?
-Inventor 2013 SP1.1 (Issue)
-Inventor 2011 SP2 (No Issue)
Templates have been coverted up from 2011, keeping copies of the old templates in separate folders all under the same parent directory.Have 2013 mapped to the folder with updated templates located on a network drive. Total of 18 temolates including the standard templates.
Computer specs:
Win 7 Pro 64bit Service Pack 1
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 @ 2.66GHz
8GB Ram
NVIDIA Quadro 2000
The Issue:I start Inventor 2013 or open an .ipt/.iam ect. I now want to create a new file so I click the 'New' Icon.Inventor freezes for 10-15seconds and finally shows the templates. After that if you click on any of the templates it freezes instantly. Or if you scroll the browser bar down to navigate the folder. 15-35 seconds
After selecting the correct template it freezes for about 15 seconds. For those keeping track Thats 40-65 seconds just to open a drawing..
For Inventor 2011.Click, Click, Click. Open..Takes maybe 5 seconds.
Starting a new Mold Design. When I try to place my part, I get an error message that says.. 'Errors occurred during create. Plastic part: Create Failed.'
How do I determine what the problem is with my part I'm trying to bring in? This was a part that was brought in from a .step file, then saved it as a .ipt. No problems that I can see with the .ipt, but Inventor Mold does not like it for some reason.
When i select a tool trough marking menu it loses focus when marking menu disapears, focus is then set back to inventor. We have 3 PC's with inventor here, but only i have this problem. Just started doing this today, i have restarted didnt work, and i have tried the old 2012 version wich works fine..
Very irritable when i start a macro that need keybord input and i have to select the userform again before typing.. *angryface*
I want to transfer the rotation motion of part 'C' at a pivot point 'D' , to part 'E' which is pivoted at 'F', while the flat surface of the part 'c' is inserted in to hole 'B' of part E. How to give an assembly constrain to hole 'B' with flat surface 'A'
I've got a template with a set of Object defaults for an Inch drawing and a set for a Metric drawing. I've just noticed that within my metric set, if I insert a hole table with tapped holes, the font on the tapped holes doesn't match the other hole types. I'm searched around, but all the settings for the hole table style reference the same text style. (Please see the attached image.)
So is there a way to set a certain hole type to have a certain font or size within a hole table? Because if there is, I'd obviously like to remove it... But I can't seem to figure out where the issue is.
I am trying to add a hole to an existing hole chart. I drop the part into a new drawing, set the ordinate 'zero', and add a hole chart by selecting a few holes. When I attempt to edit the chart: click chart, right click 'edit', click add hole, select new holes, right click to create, the 'create' selection is greyed out and all I have to choose from is cancel. I searched the forum here but could not find a reference to this a know issue. Am I doing something wrong or is this a glitch of 2013.
We are running win7 x64 machines and this happens on both the 2013 Ultimate and Premium editions of the product.
I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use 'centred pattern' and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .
Question: Is it possible to control the Hole Dimensions called out on the Hole Chart? As in controling leading/trailing zeros for main hole dim, alt home dim and tolerances? Can you combine the Main Dim with the Alt dim in a single column, separated with parentheses? (same with tolerance?)
I would like to use the hole command to place a hole in a part. When I place the hole it won't allow me to use one of the origin planes to locate the hole from. Can I only locate holes off edges?
I have an assembly that contains a part and a hole feature (the hole feature is at the assembly level). Using the api, I'm trying to get the hole location relative to the part's coordinate system in a without using the holeplacementdefinition.distance property, this way I can get the hole location regardless of the way it was defined.
i use hole feature names in hole table.
i assign hole names attribute to hole feature but dont get attribute hole table.
how to get hole names in hole table.

I am trying to create a part that has a spherical feature. The spherical feature is 'sliced' on the front and back to create a flat surface (see Compound Rest Handle Isometric image). Should I use workplanes to slice the sphere? What is an efficient process the slice the sphere. See Compound Rest Handle Front and Compound Rest Handle Back images and compare to the final result in the Compound Rest Handle Isometric image).
What I have is a bracket that sits on a pitched roof (ipt attached). The part was set up to reflect the positioning. On the lower side of the pitch, the easiest thing was to scuplt the flanges to the slope. Although the flat pattern results in some edges not being perpendicular to the face (See image). These show on the drawing. I realize you can remove these in the drawing but it would be nice to not worry about it.
What would be a better way of handling this situation?

I am working on a bin type unit, and am having trouble creating a flange, I am creating the bin in the final product stage, then I will separate into manufacturer components. I am having trouble adding this flange around the top 4 edges of the bin. I need the four corners to meet on a miter 45. I will then rip down each seam and have 4 separate panels.
Is this a bad workflow? Is there a better route? I attached the part in Inventor 2013 format,
I created this flange and I need to cut it from the extruded tube, but I'm having some trouble.
I made a sketch for a bracket and used sheetmetal/contour flanges tool to make solid.I had to use 2 contour flanges to get the shape as i could not get it to work with 1 contour flange. Is this not possible due to something wrong with my sketch?
Other question is have i used the Cut tool correctly for the cut out of the brackets?
Inventor 2012
I'm having no problems creating the contour roll, but it won't let me add flanges to the outside edges. I have attached a file that shows the measurements that I want. I need to be able to create a flat pattern. The material thickness is .1046' and 3' deep.
I made this sheet metal part, selected the arc sketch and the perpendicular edge like in the picture, but the contour flange isn't created
I am trying to make a way that suppress the flange features of all the panels that will be insert in the assembly so i can suppress all the features at ones in a assembly and don't have to do that for each panel separately.
I have a assembly with parameters and i have a part with no geometry but have linked the parameters from the assembly. In my panel part i link the parameters to the part with no geometry.
When i use the parameter in the assembly to suppress the flanges that works the way i want it. But when i insert the panel part into that assembly it doesnot work.
I am trying to create a sheetmetal part and flat pattern of a 72' radius section with 3' split flange top and bottom.I have searched the Discussion Group and several other sites with no results.
Is Inventor able to provide information about the bending angle of a lofted pieces ?
I'm trying to loft a piece from square to circle. The bender ask me what is the angle of this pieces.
I have tried to do a lofted flange. It works, but there is an extra bend that I don't understand why it is there. The bends, I would assume, should be symmetrical but they are not. I have attached the part.
I would like to know if there is a way to have the Schedule as an I-Part parameter of a flange. I'm trying to create a custom flange for use in the content center and would like both size and ID to be picked from a drop down when placed into an assembly.
Since it's a flange not a pipe I can't use the standard tube & pipe authoring method.
I'm trying to make this part on Sheet Metal, and I have to offset this flange at 28 degree that meet 0.37'. The thickness is 0.12'. Currently, the only method that I know how to meet that 0.37' is by playing around (guess and check) with the number in picture 3. Any other methods to create this offset part.

I tried to create a overlap flange in sheet metal, but the result is not what I want as I cannot select the gap edge near the circle portion. I attached the file here.
1) I have assembly containing pipe and a flange. I want flange size to correspond pipe size. In other words, when parametrically change pipe size, flange size to be updated automatically. ( do i need to have two parts - pipe and flange, or it can be one assembly without need to create parts?)
2) Is it possible to control type of flange (slip-on, weld-neck. etc) by parameters or need to make different assemblies for different flange type?
3) Then when flange and pipe sizes are updated would like to make overall length of that assembly whole number (since hub length changes with the flange size). how to round that overall length to integer?
I have sketched a fan casing which consists of a series of tangential arcs. The sketch is fully defined but when I try to use 'Contour Flange' I get the following error:
Sheet Metal: Contour Flange Creation failed.
19-3-101-26-2.ipt: Errors occurred during update
The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs.
Try decreasing bend radius
Feature Compute failed.
My guess is the end points of the arcs are not defined correctly but I do not know how to fix. I have attached the file.
how I can combine the bend function & flange in an animation. The problem is that I'm unable to use flange when the plate is nearly 98% flat (which I need to remain the radius for favorite parameters - bend function).
I am currently working with an elliptic profile that needs to be unfolded. The part consists of two sketches, with each sketch having two ellipses. The ellipses on each sketch then forms a cross-section where the thickness of it is supposed to be 8 mm (the first ellipse is offsett).
My plan is then to generate a mold for the inner and outer sides of this part by using the 'Lofted flange' function and Rip, since I want the flat pattern of it. However, I've found that I can not select my offset ellipse when using Lofted flange, only the original one. I'm thinking that this might be caused due to the offset ellipse not actually being an ellipse but a spline (I read somewhere that there are two ways of offsetting an ellipse. One generates a mathematical ellipse and the other a spline). Creating an new ellipse and then saying that the a and b distance should be 8 mm less than the other ellipse will work, but that will not give me a constant wall thickness of 8 mm along the circumference of the elliptic cross-section.
What's the best way to populate the studs and nuts on a flanged connection in tube/pipe? Can studs be added to the bolted connection content?
